Our three-night stay at Wildman Adventure Resort was one of those family trips that had my tween asking, “When can we come back?” From waking up to the sounds of the Peshtigo River to grilling dinner and making nightly s’mores by the campfire, Wildman Adventure Resort appeals to many families.

But, is it worth it? My review of Wildman Adventure Resort will answer all of your questions and help you decide whether this stay is right for you and your kids.

Wildman Adventure Resort offers several accommodation options, including cabins, glamping yurts, and tent camping. Lodging is spread across two outposts, but most options are at the Peshtigo Outpost near Silver Cliff, Wisconsin.

Our review of Wildman Adventure Resort focuses on a cabin stay at the Peshtigo River Outpost.

My Review of Staying at Wildman Adventure Resort with Kids

Would we recommend Wildman Adventure Resort for other families with kids? Without question, YES! This was one of the best trips we took in 2026.

We stayed in Ponderosa, a deluxe cabin at the Peshtigo River Outpost. It gave us the perfect home base for a weekend FILLED with outdoor adventure. And honestly, the river views alone made this such a special stay. This is such a beautiful part of Wisconsin, surrounded by waterfalls, hiking trails, and plenty of opportunities to get outside.

More on What We Loved at Wildman Adventure Resort with Kids

The exterior of a cabin at Wildman Adventure Resort.

We spent our days hiking to waterfalls, climbing, ziplining, and-our favorite-trying whitewater rafting for the first time. But what really stood out about our experience was how personal everything felt.

The Adventures

A man sits in a solo whitewater raft on the Peshtigo River.

The Wildman guides were incredible. They were so encouraging, patient, and genuinely excited to help us try new things. This made even the activities that pushed us outside our comfort zones (looking at you, giant swing!) feel approachable and fun.

We did the Alpine Tower high ropes course, whitewater rafting on the Peshtigo River (solo watercrafts), and the zipline. Each one was SO fun! It was hard to pick a favorite. In fact, we would probably all pick different activities.

That said, I think whitewater rafting adventure alone was worth the trip! This experience far exceeded our expectations (and was my personal favorite!). We did single rafts down the Peshtigo River (in late May), and enjoyed the heck out of every minute! In fact, this is the longest continuous stretch of class I to III whitewater in the Midwest. The other guided experiences we did were also fantastic, but this one really took the weekend over the top.

The Cabin

I highly recommend booking a cabin with three guided experiences. Having adventures right on the property meant we could spend less time planning and more time enjoying the weekend together.

Our Ponderosa cabin was a bit rustic, but it was also very comfortable and had everything we needed for a three-night stay. We had a kitchen, three bedrooms, a bathroom with a hot shower, and our own outdoor space overlooking the river. The outdoor space was perfect for grilling meals (there was a small charcoal grill in addition to the fire pit) and making s’mores over the open fire.

We also loved waking up to the sound of the Peshtigo River each morning. A weekend at Wildman Adventure Resort gave us the perfect mix of adventure and downtime. Between the incredible setting, welcoming guides, comfortable cabin, and unforgettable activities, this was hands-down one of the best travel experiences we’ve had in the Midwest.

If you’re looking for the best family resorts in Wisconsin, Wildman Adventure Resort should absolutely be on your list!

Things of Note

My review of Wildman Adventure Resort would be remiss without a few things of note.

First, the bugs can be noticeable depending on when you visit. We honestly didn’t find them too bad during our stay, but bug spray is absolutely a must when you’re spending this much time outdoors.

It’s also important to set your expectations for the accommodations. If you’re looking for a luxury resort with a spa, plush rooms, and all the traditional resort amenities, this probably isn’t the stay for you. The cabins are rustic and designed to be a comfortable home base between adventures-not a place to spend your entire day indoors. The glamping yurts and tent camping also provide a more rustic experience. But all sites have community showers and flush toilets.

Finally, Wildman can be a splurge for some families, especially when you add several guided experiences to your cabin stay. For the three of us, our activities came to just under $800, with our three-night cabin stay adding roughly another $1,200. That’s certainly an investment, but for our family, it would absolutely be worth the splurge. The quality of the guided experiences, the incredible setting, and the on-site accommodations were well worth it (in our opinion).

4 Reasons I Think You Should Book Your Next Wisconsin Family Getaway at Wildman Adventure Resort

As you review family resorts in Wisconsin, here are four reasons why I think families will love staying at Wildman Adventure Resort with their kids.

Encouraging Guides + Epic Adventures

A knowledgeable guide explains the high ropes course.

One of our favorite things about Wildman Adventure Resort was how incredible the guides were with kids. Every guide we met was knowledgeable, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping us have a great experience. Even when we were a bit scared! Most of the activities were new to us or challenged us in some way, but the guides never wavered in their kindness or encouragement.

That encouragement made a huge difference, especially for a tween eager to try new things and a mom (who occasionally) needed a confidence boost.

Great Location in Eastern Wisconsin

A man looks at a fire while staying at a cabin in the woods.

One of the biggest perks of Wildman Adventure Resort is its location. Tucked into a stunning, heavily wooded corner of eastern Wisconsin, the Peshtigo River Outpost feels wonderfully remote while still being within a manageable drive of several Midwest cities. It’s about 4.5 hours from both Minneapolis and Chicago, and roughly 3 hours from Milwaukee.

It’s also an incredible home base for exploring the area’s many waterfalls, hiking trails, and scenic Northwoods landscapes. And because you’re not far from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, you can easily turn your stay into a longer adventure. With so much natural beauty surrounding it, the location alone helps make Wildman one of the best family resorts in Wisconsin for families who want to get outside and explore.

Lodging Options for All Group Sizes

One thing I appreciated during our Wildman Adventure Resort stay was the variety of lodging options. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway for your immediate family or bringing along grandparents, cousins, or friends, there are accommodations to fit different group sizes.

You can choose from cabins, tents, and yurts depending on how rustic you want your stay to be. The cabins are especially great for larger families, with some sleeping up to 13 or even 15 guests so that you can keep everyone together under one roof. Even the tent sites can accommodate families/groups of 4+. For our family of three, the Ponderosa cabin was the perfect fit. Ponderosa sleeps up to 8.

As my Wildman Adventure Resort review can attest, that flexibility is a big reason I’d consider it one of the best family resorts in Wisconsin for group getaways.

Proximity to Nature

Antonia sits near a waterfall in northern Wisconsin.

If your family would rather spend a weekend outside than inside a hotel (like us!), Wildman Adventure Resort with kids is hard to beat. Nature is quite literally right outside your door.

The resort is beautifully set along the Peshtigo River. From the property, you’re perfectly positioned to spend your days hiking, chasing waterfalls, climbing, ziplining, and rafting, then come back to your cabin to relax around the campfire.

I loved that we never had to go far to find our next adventure. For families who want to unplug, explore, and give their kids plenty of opportunities to experience the outdoors, this is a fantastic place in Wisconsin to do it.
