If you've ever dreamed of a cozy, nature-centered Minnesota getaway (that still feels like a touch of luxury!), let me introduce you to Sweetbriar Ridge. This isn't your typical cabin-in-the-woods. It's a luxury glamping experience near the Twin Cities that has quickly become one of our favorite places to stay in Minnesota. My Sweetbriar Ridge review will share our honest thoughts and things you need to know before booking your own stay.

Nestled within 56 acres of prairie and woods, Sweetbriar Ridge is just 10 minutes from Pine City, making it the perfect balance of secluded retreat and easy-to-reach getaway. We've stayed at Sweetbriar Ridge with our kiddo twice now: once in the middle of summer and once during a snowy Minnesota winter. Each trip left us in awe for different reasons.

This is one of those rare places that feels genuinely magical year-round!

A peek inside one of the domes at Sweetbriar Ridge.

We've tried two of the three domes on the property:

  • Solidago, which is light, bright, and cheerful with pops of yellow (inspired by the goldenrod flowers in the prairie!).
  • Basalt, which leans moodier with jewel greens and black accents.

Both feature the same luxury touches: a stargazing dome, two sleeping areas, an ensuite bathroom and shower (with a towel warmer!), and a fully stocked kitchen that makes glamping feel extra easy. Honestly, this might just be one of the best dome stays near the Twin Cities. My daughter still asks when we can go back and stay there again! Each stay has been so relaxing, breathtaking, and precisely the kind of reset our family needs.

This Sweetbriar Ridge review will cover everything you need to know about staying here, including amenities, what we liked most, and a few things of note. Keep reading to learn more about staying at Sweetbriar Ridge with (or without) kids!

My Review of Staying at Sweetbriar Ridge with Kids

A family of three walks in the snow toward a dome at Sweetbriar Ridge.

Honestly, we loved our stay at Sweetbriar Ridge! The property and its thoughtful, family-friendly touches are genuinely exceptional. They rank in the top 1% in cabins that we've stayed in across the Midwest. Plus, Brianna and David are wonderful hosts who deeply care about conservation, restorative time in nature, and the guest experience.

With spacious luxury domes that sleep up to four, private firepits, cozy accommodations, and trails right outside your door, Sweetbriar Ridge makes it easy to relax, explore, and reconnect with your favorite people-all in one magical spot. Each dome is also strategically angled to maximize privacy during your stay (definitely something I was curious about in reviewing Sweetbriar Ridge).

Would we recommend Sweetbriar Ridge with (or without) kids? Without a doubt, yes!

After experiencing it ourselves (in both summer and winter!), we can honestly say it's one of our top recommendations for where to stay in Minnesota with kids. This section shares my overall Sweetbriar Ridge review and why it's such a special place for families.

More on What We Loved at Sweetbriar Ridge with Kids

A young girl stands near a stick fort in the woods near Sweetbriar Ridge.

Here's a bit more of a review on what we adored about our stay at Sweetbriar Ridge.

What we loved most about Sweetbriar Ridge with kids is how nature becomes the center of your stay. Right outside the dome, you'll find prairie and forest trails just begging to be explored. We even found a little fort in the woods during our first stay!

In spring and summer, wildflowers add bursts of color along the paths. Meanwhile, winter transforms everything into a snow globe experience-seriously, it's magical watching snow swirl outside the window. The domes are all set up for year-round comfort. And, in my experience, there's nothing like falling asleep to the sound of owls and waking up to grouse beating their chests. Wildlife sightings are common here, making the whole stay feel like a true nature retreat.

The lofted bedroom features a stargazing window that might just be our favorite part of the dome. We loved spending late nights gazing at constellations! My daughter even brought her constellation book on our second visit to see what we could spot. And, on one special trip, we even caught a glimpse of the northern lights-talk about unforgettable!

As foodies, we also loved how well-equipped the kitchen was. From full-sized appliances to thoughtful touches like kids' dishes and cutlery, everything we needed to cook family meals was right at our fingertips.

If you are looking for a family vacation in Minnesota where you'll actually feel rested at the end of it, I promise, Sweetbriar Ridge is that getaway!

Things of Note

You might be wondering if glamping is right for you. Let me just say-if I can love it, anyone can! That said, no Sweetbriar Ridge review is complete without a few notes to consider when booking your stay.

I'm not a camper by any means, and yet luxury glamping near the Twin Cities at Sweetbriar Ridge completely won me over. You get all the best parts of nature without compromising on sleep or showers. While you can't expect it to be a five-star hotel with around-the-clock staff, the domes still offer similar luxury amenities-with the added bonus of having nature quite literally right outside your door. That said, if you're used to ultra-high luxury stays, just know that this is still glamping, a little remote, and intentionally unplugged.

Sleeping arrangements are open concept, which may not work for every family. The main floor doubles as the main bedroom, while a second sleeping space is lofted above. There's also a small seating area and a dining table with four chairs, so you still have space to spread out, enjoy meals together, and relax comfortably.

4 Reasons Why You Should Book Your Next Minnesota Getaway at Sweetbriar Ridge

If you're looking for a place to stay near Pine City or the Twin Cities with your family, consider Sweetbriar Ridge. As I've said, it's become one of our favorite spots for a family getaway. Here are four reasons to review before booking and why we think you will enjoy staying at Sweetbriar Ridge, too.

Proximity to Nature

A beautiful prairie view at sunset near Pine City.

I've touched on this before in my Sweetbriar Ridge review, but it's worth mentioning again: the connection to nature here is unbeatable. From the moment you step out of the car, you're wrapped in a peaceful mix of prairie and forest. While staying here, you are literally surrounded by nature on all fronts.

In the summer, trails just outside the dome are lined with wildflowers and buzzing with pollinators. Fall brings spectacular golden colors through the prairie and the trees. Meanwhile, in the winter, the property is utterly enchanting. From my experience, you will feel just like you're staying in a snowglobe!

A man points out tracks in the snow while hiking with his daughter.

Wildlife feels close but not intrusive; we've spotted deer on the trails and heard owls calling at night. Early mornings are filled with birdsong. And, winter's snow will let you search for tracks while you explore. If your family craves fresh air and wide-open spaces, you'll love how Sweetbriar Ridge gives you and your kids all of that and more without having to rough it.

You Can Truly Relax + Reconnect at Sweetbriar Ridge

A man reads a book while staying at Sweetbriar Ridge.

One of the reasons we keep coming back to Sweetbriar Ridge is how easy it is to slow down. Our lives are usually full of school schedules, work deadlines, and screens, but here everything feels simpler. And, slower.

The dome has everything you need to be comfortable (think: running water, a shower, a fully stocked kitchen) so you can relax without worrying about what's missing. Evenings around the fire pit are our favorite: roasting marshmallows, stargazing, and just being together. Here, time slows down. You will simply find yourself savoring the little moments here, like board games, cozy story times, and nature walks. This isn't just a trip-it's a reset button for your family.

Kids and Families are Not an Afterthought at Sweetbriar Ridge

A young girl reads on a bed, while staying near Pine City.

Some "luxury" places and Minnesota cabins say that they're family-friendly, but you quickly realize the kids are more tolerated than welcomed. Not here.

At Sweetbriar Ridge, it's clear families with kids are intentionally thought of in the design. Kids need nature too! The kitchen includes kid-sized dishes and cutlery, which makes mealtimes easier (and less stressful). The lofted sleeping space is practically a kid's dream fort. Our daughter certainly loved climbing up to "her" room each night.

Plus, the property itself is safe to explore, with trails perfect for short adventures before bedtime. You never feel like you're apologizing for having kids here-instead, you feel celebrated as a family making memories together. I think that intentional thoughtfulness makes all the difference. My Sweetbriar Ridge review wouldn’t quite be complete without mentioning this one!

Thoughtful Hosts + Touches

A family enjoys s'mores at a cozy cabin on a weekend trip to Pine City.

The domes themselves are gorgeous. But, what makes Sweetbriar Ridge so special are the little touches from the hosts. You can tell Brianna and David have put so much care into each and every detail. It's clear that this isn't just a business for them. It's a passion project! Plus, they care just as much about restoring the land as they do about guests getting to enjoy it.

Brianna and David are also incredibly responsive and welcoming. They love sharing tips on local hikes, fishing spots, and when to catch seasonal highlights (like fall foliage or the northern lights). It feels like staying at a friend's place-if your friend just happened to design one of the best dome stays near the Twin Cities.
