Tips for Eating in Cozumel with Kids
Before covering our favorite places to eat in Cozumel with kids, here are a few restaurant tips:
- Cozumel is very family-friendly! Luckily, you likely won’t have problems finding something your kids will gladly devour. And more likely than not, locally-owned restaurants will work hard to ensure your child has what they need, too!
- Some restaurants have play areas for kids, which can be a nice respite from having them sit still while dining out.
- If you have a kitchen in your accommodations, grocery stores are easy to find and offer everything you need to make a meal or two together.
- Tipping is common in Mexico (similar to the U.S.); 10 – 20% is relatively standard. If you are traveling in a large group or are in a trendier part of the city, watch for service charges that may already cover tips. Some receipts will not have a tip line, and most payment tablets do not include tip lines. Prepare to have cash to tip servers and bartenders.
- Many table service restaurants offer kids’ menus, but not all do. You’ll want to know what your kids will/won’t eat while traveling if you run into a spot that doesn’t offer what they want to eat. Most places can make a quesadilla or chips and guacamole when in doubt.

Quesadillas “La Palapa” | Breakfast, Lunch
Tulum, Colonos Cuzamil, 77664 Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico
Looking for the best breakfast restaurants in Cozumel for families with kids? Quesadillas “La Palapa” might just become your new favorite local eatery! Located outside Centro, the main cruise port, this restaurant feels like a tropical retreat. It is tucked away under a charming palapa roof surrounded by lush greenery. The peaceful setting, complete with birdsong, makes it a perfect way to kick off your day on the island.
We stumbled upon this hidden gem after our first choice was closed, thanks to a friendly local walking her dog, and it turned out to be the highlight of our day! The homemade dishes are bursting with flavor, from the fresh-squeezed juices to hearty favorites like chilaquiles (a must!), sopes, and omelets. Everything is also reasonably priced, making it a win for families.
Whether savoring your meal or just soaking in the tropical vibes, this spot lets you relax before diving into your next island adventure. For a non-touristy place to eat in Cozumel, add Quesadillas “La Palapa” to your list!
Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park | Breakfast, Lunch
Inside Cozumel´s National Reef Marine Park, Carr. Costera Sur Km. 9, Zona Hotelera Nte., 77688 Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico
Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Cozumel with kids (though likely also your most touristy day on the island). Located within Cozumel’s National Reef Marine Park, this adventure park combines natural beauty, endless kid-friendly activities, and excellent snorkeling. It’s also an excellent place for breakfast and lunch for those looking to hit the beach and enjoy ocean-side service.
Spend the day relaxing in waterfront umbrellas and loungers (included with your entrance, first come/first serve). While leaning back and relaxing as your kids play nearby, food and drink service periodically checks on you (food/drinks are not included in your entrance and are billed separately). You can order right from your lounger! Keep in mind, however, that food here will likely be some of the most expensive on the island. Though, we found having a relaxing day on the beach worth it.
In addition to this service, several restaurants, bars, and food kiosks are also on-site. With so much to offer, it is no wonder this is one of the best places for families to eat in Cozumel!
Casa Mission | Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Av Lic Benito Juárez 55, Adolfo López Mateos, 77600 Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico
If you’re looking for one of the best all-day restaurants in Cozumel for families with kids, Casa Mission is a must-visit! It’s an ideal spot to start your day or wrap up a fun day of snorkeling and exploring.
The menu is a feast for everyone, no matter the time of day. Dinner features fresh seafood, authentic Mexican dishes, and crafted cocktails. Meanwhile, breakfast includes menu items like chilaquiles, omelets, hotcakes, and more. Even the pickiest eaters will find something to love at Casa Mission! Parents will especially appreciate the on-site playground, where kids can burn off any extra energy while waiting for their meal—giving you a chance to chat or breathe for a moment.
With indoor and outdoor seating options, live music, and a welcoming atmosphere, Casa Mission is a top pick for where to eat in Cozumel with kids. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself to a delicious dinner, this spot delivers every time.

Located in the bustling port area, Crazy King Burrito is a family-run eatery that specializes in fresh, flavorful food. Offering a welcoming vibe for all ages, this spot is beloved for its hand-rolled burritos, which are made fresh daily and packed with authentic Mexican flavors. Whether you choose to dine indoors, outdoors, or take your meal to go, the super-friendly staff makes the experience easy and enjoyable. Las Tortugas Restaurant | Lunch, Dinner
Av. Lic. Pedro Joaquin Coldwell 1200, Gonzalo Guerrero, 77664 Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico
Las Tortugas Restaurant is a family-friendly spot off the main tourist area. It offers authentic flavors in a relaxed atmosphere. One of the best parts is the on-site playground, welcoming young kids to play while waiting to order or eat. The playground is also fenced with a gated entrance near the seating area, making it easy to relax while keeping an eye on your kids.
During our visit, we devoured the octopus ceviche, flavorful tacos, and classic chips and guac. Of course, our daughter enjoyed a meal from the dedicated kids’ menu. The friendly staff made the experience even better (especially since we went here on our first night on the island!). Whether you’re looking for chicken fajitas or fresh seafood, Las Tortugas deserves a spot among the best restaurants in Cozumel with kids.
La Clásica Cozumel | Dinner (Located in Centro)
5a Av. Nte. 299, Centro, 77668 Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico
Okay, I can say this with genuine sincerity…this was our FAVORITE place to eat on the island! La Clásica Cozumel was, hands down, one of the best restaurants we found in Cozumel with kids. This enchanting eatery pays homage to the golden age of cantinas, blending tradition, community, and exceptional Mexican flavors. Even though it’s located in Centro, it’s a bit off the main area and offers a quiet, intimate dinner experience.
Indoor and outdoor seating are available at La Clásica Cozumel. We opted for outdoor seating, which was perfect for us and added to the overall experience. The molcajete we ordered was a showstopper! It was easily one of the best things I have ever eaten on vacation.
While there isn’t a specific kids’ menu, the friendly staff recommended options that worked well for our daughter. Dinner at La Clásica Cozumel was absolutely a highlight of our trip—and I hope it is for you, too!
Taqueria Hernández! | “Late” Dinner
Av Andres Q Roo 741, Adolfo López Mateos, 77645 Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico
Outside the main tourist district, Taqueria Hernández is an excellent choice for families looking for authentic tacos in Cozumel. This no-frills eatery offers quick service, several options, and unbeatable tacos, making it one of the best restaurants in Cozumel with kids. It’s another place we stumbled upon by chance, and we absolutely loved it! It’s perfect for a late dinner after a long day exploring Cozumel with kids (they open around 7:00 pm).
The casual, open-air seating is perfect for families looking for a low-key meal, and the straightforward menu keeps things simple. The tacos and tortas are fresh and packed with authentic flavors. As you arrive, the sight of meat roasting on a rotisserie greets you alongside a mouthwatering aroma. Even if you aren’t hungry, Taqueria Hernández is hard to resist. And, their al pastor tacos are among the best I’ve ever had—chock full of flavor and perfectly cooked.
Just remember that they are cash only!
Local Taco Truck: L’esquitencanto
bus sur, Av xelha entre 5a av sur y 5, 77600 Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico
For a taste of local flavor, head to L’esquitencanto—one of Cozumel’s best non-touristy places to eat. This charming taco truck offers a casual, outdoor dining experience that’s perfect for families looking to escape the usual tourist spots.
And the tacos? Unforgettable. In fact, we couldn’t resist going back for seconds! Every bite explodes with fresh, vibrant flavors that capture the heart of Cozumel’s food scene. They keep it simple, satisfying, and undeniably tasty. Trust us, you don’t want to miss this local favorite!
