Broders’ Pasta Bar

Broders’ Pasta Bar in South Minneapolis is a go-to for Italian comfort food served al fresco. In fact, it’s my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis! The intimate patio has a cover, lush greenery, and a relaxed vibe perfect for families. Their kids’ menu is simple but satisfying, with pasta options that little ones will love. Adults can indulge in seasonal pastas, a divine burrata salad, and wines by the glass or bottle. It’s one of the best summer patios in Minneapolis with kids because it manages to feel both special and low-key for everyone in your crew. We always leave happy and full.
Coastal Seafoods
At Coastal Seafoods, summer is all about the outdoor bites and casual patio. Their lobster roll is a must, and the crispy fish tacos are a close second. I mean, is there anything better than lobster rolls in the summer sun? It’s a great spot for adventurous eaters—even picky kiddos can usually be tempted by fries, fish, or fried shrimp. There’s no dedicated kids’ menu, but the relaxed setting and fast, counter-style ordering make this an ideal Twin Cities patio for families looking for a quick lunch.
Hola Arepa

Hola Arepa’s patio is a colorful oasis in the middle of Minneapolis, offering fun cocktails and a tropical vibe. The tropical murals, string lights, and upbeat energy make it an awesome stop for families looking for Twin Cities summer dining spots with kids. My daughter loves the sweet plantains, arepas, and fresh juices (so, I know your kiddos will adore the kids’ menu here, too!). While kids enjoy their dedicated menu and the outdoor swings (use with oversight), grown-ups can sip a tamarind margarita or frozen slushie. The lively patio and fast service make it a winner for outdoor dining in Minneapolis with kids.
Sea Salt Eatery
Sea Salt Eatery is one of my favorite summer spots for outdoor dining with kids in Minneapolis. It’s so good, I’ve managed to forget to let the camera eat first—so you’ll just have to imagine this one! Tucked inside Minnehaha Regional Park, it serves fresh seafood—think fish tacos, po’boys, and calamari—on a sunny, picnic-style patio just steps from the falls (there is usually at least one shady spot). There’s no kids’ menu, but we’ve never had trouble finding something delicious to share. After eating, you can explore the trails or watch the cascading urban waterfall. Expect this counter-service spot to be busy on lovely summer days. Plan ahead or come early. It’s casual, fun, and full of summer magic. It is undoubtedly one of the best Twin Cities summer dining spots with kids.
St. Genevieve

Bonjour, St. Genevieve! This Linden Hills eatery is a dreamy spot for its charming patio and divine French flavors. Their shaded patio feels like a secret garden, with large potted flowers blooming and pesky street views. There isn’t a kids’ menu, but the small plates and burgers will appeal to most kids. My daughter usually goes for the steak frites (or sometimes, just the frites and dessert—kids, what can I say!). I love the oysters and seasonal menu options. Families seeking enchanting patios in Minneapolis will absolutely adore this local gem.
The Tasting Room

The Tasting Room might sound like a grown-up spot, but it’s surprisingly family-friendly, especially on the sunny patio. Though if your kids are easily fussy at the table, it may be one to skip and wait until they are older. The menu includes kid-friendly bites (think charcuterie, flatbreads, and sweets). I love it for a fancy summer happy hour or early dinner, where the adults can enjoy a glass of wine. And, the kids can nibble and color along, while everyone enjoys the beautiful weather. It’s one of those Twin Cities summer dining spots with kids that feels like a vacation (even if it’s just for your taste buds!).
Victor’s 1959 Café

Victor’s 1959 Café is a Twin Cities classic, with a tiny but colorful patio and a huge heart. Cuban comfort food, like ropa vieja and sweet plantains, are a favorite for all ages. Pat’s Tap is loud, lively, and fun—just what families need for a laid-back night out together. It’s an excellent spot for kids who like to move and parents who love a great pour alongside some pub grub. Their patio is spacious, and the menu includes burgers, fries, mac & cheese, and fried cheese curds that please every age. Plus, little ones have their own dedicated kids’ menu. There’s even skee-ball inside! Talk about a fun joint for all ages. If you want an easy outdoor dining option in Minneapolis with kids that doesn’t sacrifice flavor, this is it!
Owamni

Owamni by Sean Sherman (aka The Sioux Chef) is one of the most meaningful and delicious dining experiences in the Twin Cities. Their riverside patio is gorgeous, and the Indigenous menu is just as exciting. While there’s no dedicated kids’ menu, the staff is incredible about helping families navigate the options. The menu changes seasonally, meaning there is always something new to try. This is a must-visit for families wanting to explore Twin Cities’ rooftop dining in a truly special way.
