Ginger Cardamon Chai Latte with Orange Whipped Cream

This Ginger Cardamom Chai Latte is winter comfort with a bright, playful twist. Rich warming spices like cardamom, ginger, and classic chai aromatics create that cozy, soul-warming flavor we crave on cold days. Topped with a cloud of orange whipped cream, which adds just the right pop of citrus. It's rich, fragrant, and perfectly balanced. It feels indulgent without being too heavy.

One of the best parts? This recipe uses chai concentrate, which makes it wonderfully simple. If you've ever wondered how to use chai concentrate, this drink is the perfect place to start. Heat, pour, top, and sip-no simmering spices or complicated steps required.

Whether you're making a single mug for a quiet winter afternoon or scaling it up to serve six for easy entertaining, this Ginger Cardamom Chai Latte fits the moment. It's the kind of drink that warms hands, sparks conversation, and turns any winter gathering-big or small-into something a little more special.

Before creating this recipe, I searched high and low for ways to use chai concentrate that went beyond simply adding milk. I wanted my afternoon cup of chai-always made with Chiya Chai concentrate since it’s a local Minnesota brand-to feel a little extra and a little more magical for winter. Something warmer, cozier, and more layered.

It was important to me to create a recipe with chai concentrate that let the chai flavors truly shine. And, to add a little brightness to the darkest days of winter. The recipe that emerged did precisely what I had hoped for, and I am so proud of it.

A Few Helpful Tips

A cup brimming with tea.

Ready to make this Ginger Cardamom Chai with Orange Whipped Cream? Here are a few helpful tips to get you started.

  • Not every chai concentrate is created equal. I highly recommend using Chiya Chai (hand-brewed in my home state of Minnesota!).
  • While a milk frother isn't completely necessary, it does add a little extra flair!
  • Be careful not to over-mix the whipped cream (or it will deflate and could become clumpy).
  • This recipe should yield ~2 small- to medium-sized teacups. You can double the recipe for larger coffee mugs or more people.

Prep Time30 minutes
Course: Breakfast, Drinks
Cuisine: American, Indian
Keyword: Ginger Cardamom Chai Latte, Winter Chai Recipe
Servings: 2 Tea Cups

Equipment

  • Preferred mixing bowl/mixer with whisk attachment
  • Milk frother of choice (handheld or espresso machine will work)

Ingredients

Ginger Cardamom Chai Latte Ingredients

  • 1.5 Cups Ginger Cardamom Chiya Chai
  • 1 Cup Almond Milk (or, your preferred milk)
  • 1 tsp. Sugar (if added sweetness is desired)

Orange Whipped Cream Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 2-3 Tbsp. Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Freshly squeeze orange juice
  • Zest of one orange (set some aside if you want to sprinkle a bit on top)

Instructions

  • Make the Orange Whipped Cream first. Start by whipping the heavy whipping cream in your mixing bowl on high until stiff peaks form. Then mix in 2-3 tablespoon of powdered sugar to taste (start with 2 tablespoon if you want it less sweet). Once you've found the desired sweetness, mix in 1 Tbsp. freshly squeeze orange juice and the zest from one orange. (Reserving a bit of the zest to sprinkle on top.)
  • Be careful not to over-mix. Set aside.
  • To make the Ginger Cardamom Chai Latte, heat the almond milk. If you have an espresso machine with a milk frother, heat and froth almond milk this way. (Alternatively, heat the almond milk in the microwave and froth with a handheld milk frother.)
  • Heat the Ginger Cardamom Chiya Chai separately (in the microwave works just fine!).
  • Put the chai in your mugs first (it should yield ~2 small tea cups/coffee mugs). Then, add the almond milk on top. Stir in sugar to taste (if desired).
  • Add the whipped cream and a sprinkle of the orange zest on top. Chocolate chips or chocolate sprinkles on top would be lovely, too!
  • Serve with your choice of cookies or a croissant. Enjoy!

Notes

Storage: Store the whipped cream in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Enjoy!
