We've been lucky enough to visit Door County twice with our young daughter (and are always dreaming of going back!). Every trip is just as much about the food as it is about the adventure. Between playground stops, hikes, and orchard visits, you can easily enjoy cozy cafes, waterfront eateries, and quirky board game restaurants. You can even enjoy breakfast at a place with goats on the roof (yes, really!). Along the way, we discovered some of the best restaurants in Door County with kids-places that serve up delicious meals while also welcoming families with open arms.
This guide is a compilation of our favorites, all based on our own experiences. If you're wondering where to eat in Door County with kids, consider this your roadmap. We'll start in Sturgeon Bay, work our way up the west side of the peninsula, hop over to Washington Island, and then make our way back down the east side. My guide is both a food tour and a parent-approved list of Door County family restaurants you'll be glad you didn't miss!
Lawlss Coffee, Sturgeon Bay (Coffee, Breakfast)

Wondering where to grab a quick breakfast in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, with kids? Get a caffeine boost and pastries at Lawlss Coffee in downtown Sturgeon Bay. We usually start our travel mornings with a quick coffee and a pastry. This place is a real treat! This is the perfect location near the base of the Door County peninsula, no matter where your day takes you.
Housed in a historic bank, this cozy café serves up all the classics (lattes, cappuccinos, cold brew) and some fun seasonal specialties. The real surprise? You can sip your drink inside the old bank vault! The pastry case is just as tempting as the coffee menu, with plenty of kid-friendly options to pair with your coffee. Think muffins, croissants, and sweet treats that make it easy to turn a coffee run into a family breakfast stop.

The Gnoshery, Sturgeon Bay (All Day)

This is one of our favorite lunch spots in Door County! Located in Sturgeon Bay, grab a bite to eat at The Gnoshery. This one-of-a-kind spot offers delicious comfort food with a side of play. This café doubles as a board game haven! While you dig into your family meal, try out everything from quick card games to epic strategy challenges.
The menu leans hearty and delicious-think soups, sandwiches, and plenty of "gnoshables" perfect for a midday refuel. Don't miss The Gnosh sandwich, which bursts with cozy fall flavors and is one of our favorites. If something catches your eye in the game library, you can even purchase it to bring the fun back home. No wonder this is one of the best restaurants in Door County with kids!
Prince of Pierogi Restaurant, Ephraim (Lunch + Dinner)

After a big day of exploring, Ephraim's Prince of Pierogi always hits just right! The setup is simple-picnic tables outside and comfort food that's made with love and tradition.
We usually order a mix of pierogi, cabbage rolls, and kielbasa hot dogs. The food is always homemade and comforting. The staff is also super kind, which always makes it feel like we are eating in someone's backyard rather than at a restaurant. It's one of those family restaurants that instantly makes everyone feel welcome (even without a formal kids' menu!).
And the best part? Dessert pierogi. We tried one filled with Door County cherries, and honestly, it was unforgettable. Sweet, tart, and just the right way to end a day in Door County with kids. If you're wondering where to eat in Door County with kids, add Prince of Pierogi to the top of your list!
Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant, Sister Bay (Breakfast + Lunch)

No trip to Sister Bay is complete without a stop at Al Johnson's-yes, the restaurant with the goats on the roof! My daughter couldn't believe her eyes when she saw them grazing up there, and honestly, neither could I. It's such a quirky, only-in-Door-County kind of experience, and it made breakfast feel like an adventure in itself.
Of course, the real reason we came was for the food. Their Swedish pancakes are as good as everyone says-thin, buttery, and topped with tart lingonberries. Our daughter devoured hers, and we loved them just as much. They have other homey favorites on the menu, too. Think burgers, grilled sandwiches, and hearty entrees like Swedish meatballs. They have a dedicated kids' menu.

Yes, you'll likely have to wait for a table. While waiting, we wandered over to the waterfront park across the street, where our daughter played on the lakeside playground. There's also a little shop inside the restaurant that's fun to browse while you wait. It's busy, it's iconic, and it's totally worth it. It's one of those kid-friendly restaurants in Door County that will stick with your family long after your visit is over!
Wild Tomato Pizza, Fish Creek and Sister Bay (Lunch + Dinner)

When it comes to the best restaurants in Door County with kids, Wild Tomato Pizza is a clear standout. With locations in Fish Creek and Sister Bay, this wood-fired pizzeria is a family favorite thanks to its relaxed vibe and crowd-pleasing menu.
Parents love the creative toppings, while kids enjoy the classics-and the bonus of getting pizza dough to play with at the table (ask your server for details). They also offer a dedicated kids' menu. We've eaten at both locations, and you really can't go wrong with either of them!
At the Sister Bay location, families can take advantage of the playground right behind the restaurant. Talk about one of the easiest and most fun restaurants in Sister Bay, Wisconsin, with kids! Whether you dine in or grab a carryout pizza to enjoy at the beach, Wild Tomato is a must-try.
Sweetie Pies, Fish Creek (Sweet Treat)

If you're looking for a truly charming stop on your Door County adventure, Sweetie Pies is it. This little gem in Fish Creek is the perfect place to grab a slice of pie. Enjoy it on the go or linger a bit in the wide green spaces out front. I recommend lingering if the weather is nice! Fall is especially magical here, with towering maples that show off for the season. Sweetie Pies is arguably an essential stop for anyone wondering where to get pie in Door County.
Every pie is lovingly handmade, with hand-rolled crusts and a focus on real, wholesome ingredients (just fruit, a bit of flour, sugar, and butter). Each pie is just pure, fruity goodness. Cherry pie is a classic for a reason, but their rotating seasonal flavors are always worth a try.
Whether you pre-order a full-size pie or grab one of the slices on display, Sweetie Pies is one of the best sweet treats in Door County with kids. Full-sized pies must be pre-ordered. If you didn't order ahead, there are slices or mini pies available in the shop.
The Old Post Office Restaurant, Ephraim (Breakfast + Fish Boil)

For a classic Door County experience, you can't skip a fish boil at The Old Post Office Restaurant in Ephraim. One of the best restaurants in Door County with kids, this family-friendly spot has been serving locals and visitors for decades.
We went for a fish boil, but they also offer breakfast. The traditional fish boil meal features locally caught Lake Michigan whitefish, potatoes, onions, and corn, all boiled over an open flame and served with a slice of cherry pie for dessert. It is truly a feast the whole family will enjoy.

Reservations are highly recommended, especially in the fall when the crowds flock for this iconic Door County tradition. For kids, the restaurant also offers simpler options like chicken tenders or hot dogs, so everyone leaves happy and full. The Old Post Office Restaurant undoubtedly offers one of the best fish boils in Door County!

Known for their hearty soups and hand-crafted sandwiches, this cozy spot is perfect for lunch after a morning of exploring the island. We love their soups served in bread bowls. Their chili is something I dream about year-round!

Outdoor picnic tables along the water make it ideal for good-weather days. Kids can play cornhole or explore the small play area while parents relax. Don't forget to save room for one of their delicious pies-it's the perfect ending to a satisfying island lunch.
