If you're a local or traveling to Duluth with kids, one of the best parts of any destination is discovering where to eat. And, we've done the taste-testing, so you don't have to! This list highlights my top picks for the best restaurants in Duluth with kids. I've included breakfast spots, lunch favorites, dinner recommendations, and a couple of iconic ice cream stops.

Everything here is a place we've personally tried. If there isn't a photo, it just means we visited before we started blogging. Each restaurant on this list offers something unique, whether it's a cozy café or an iconic Canal Park eatery. This family guide also includes some of the best ice cream spots in Duluth with kids, so you can plan your meals knowing there's always a treat to look forward to. That said, here is my Foodie Parent's Guide to the 14 Best Restaurants in Duluth with Kids!

P.S. You'll notice there aren't many restaurants in Canal Park listed in this guide. While there are many to choose from, I generally find the waits are too long, and they are overpriced for what they offer. There are better-priced and more enjoyable meals to be found in other Duluth neighborhoods.

The Loch Café & Games (Coffee, Breakfast, Lunch)

Breakfast treats from The Loch Café & Games.

The Loch Café & Games is a hidden gem for coffee or breakfast in Duluth. Tucked away in a cozy corner of the city, it's the perfect place to start a family day with good coffee and family fun. In addition to cafe fare, they have everything from family board games to a Super Nintendo emulator for a little nostalgic fun while you dine.

Our daughter loves the shelf of games available to play. On our most recent visit, we spent the morning playing Exploding Kittens while eating our breakfast. We also enjoy the small but delicious pastry selection. If you want something heartier, grab a hearty breakfast sandwich.

With an indoor space that's warm and welcoming, you can settle in (even on rainy mornings!). It's the kind of local spot where breakfast feels leisurely, and everyone leaves connected and energized.

Dovetail Cafe & Marketplace (Coffee, Breakfast, Lunch)

Coffee and scones from Dovetail Cafe & Marketplace, one of the best restaurants in Duluth with kids.

Nestled in the trendy Lincoln Park Craft District, Dovetail Café & Marketplace is one of my favorite restaurants for breakfast in Duluth with kids. The interior is cozy and offers ample seating. There are even a few outdoor cafe tables for sunny days. Plus, the small market area featuring local artisan goods is a fun spot to shop local. And, great pastries, to boot! No wonder it’s a favorite for local and traveling families alike.

Grab a cup of coffee and browse the crafts. Or, snag a table to enjoy your sweet treat. This is what we usually do. Dovetail also serves heartier breakfast and lunch items, so you can easily stay for a larger meal before heading out to explore the neighborhood.

The atmosphere is welcoming, light, and creative. It's perfect for families who want a little local flavor while enjoying breakfast. Whether you're coming for a quick coffee or a slow morning with kids, Dovetail always delivers.

Uncle Loui’s Cafe (Breakfast, Lunch)

For classic, no-fuss breakfasts that appeal to kids and parents alike, Uncle Loui's Café is a must-visit. It is undoubtedly one of our favorite Duluth breakfast restaurants for families! More than generous portions. Fluffy pancakes (my go-to). And, omelets packed with your favorite ingredients. You really can't go wrong! This is the kind of breakfast spot that leaves everyone FULL and satisfied. Don't plan a hike after this meal!

Don't be surprised if there is a wait, especially on the weekend. This is a beloved local hangout. The casual, friendly atmosphere makes it easy to linger without feeling rushed. The café feels like a local staple (because it is!). Uncle Loui's Café is full of energy in the mornings. Get the banana pancakes and thank me later! Though, the omelets are very good, too. Uncle Loui's is reliable and tasty, making it a family favorite for a reason.

Sara’s Table, Chester Creek Cafe (All Day)

A bison dish from Sara's Table, Chester Creek Cafe, one of the best restaurants in Duluth with kids.

For an unassuming, homey dining experience, Sara's Table Chester Creek Café is a top choice for kid-friendly restaurants in Duluth. The menu is full of fresh, thoughtful options for adults and kids alike, with plenty of seating (indoor and outdoor) and a friendly staff. They also serve food all day, from breakfast to dinner. Even if you need a quick coffee, you can pop in for a cup and a pastry and be on your way. Of course, the casual, cozy vibes make it easy to linger.

Our daughter loves the GBLT (guacamole on a BLT!). And, we love that the menu focuses on community and farm-to-table eats. It feels like a neighborhood secret (but, it is well-loved!), where meals are hearty and comforting without being fussy. Sara's Table is a reliable stop for families wanting local flavor in a welcoming, relaxed setting.

Silos Restaurant at Pier B Resort (All Day)

Fish tacos from Silos Restaurant at Pier B Resort.

For a convenient, waterfront option, Silos Restaurant at Pier B Resort is one of the most kid-friendly restaurants in Duluth. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the menu offers approachable classics and fresh options with harbor views.

Our family loves watching the ships while dining. And, the casual, modern atmosphere keeps everyone comfortable. Of course, if you're staying at Pier B Resort, it's an easy choice when you want a convenient meal. The kids' menu has everything they want, while the regular menus feature northern Minnesota fare like Walleye Cakes, Cranberry Wild Rice BLT, panfried walleye, and more. Go for the food, stay for the views!

Northern Waters Smokehaus (Lunch, Dinner)

An open face bagel sandwich from Northern Waters Smokehaus.

Northern Waters Smokehaus is one of the best restaurants in Duluth for lunch with kids. Right in Canal Park, it's a unique gourmet market and deli with a huge menu of sandwiches, smoked fish, and artisan meats

We loved looking through all the different options. The extensive sandwich menu makes it easy to satisfy picky eaters and adventurous eaters alike. Cozy yet bustling, the shop has a friendly vibe and plenty of casual seating (indoor and an outdoor patio). You can grab sandwiches to go or linger over a meal while watching the harbor activity outside. Northern Waters Smokehaus is also a great spot to grab picnic supplies. It's a classic Duluth spot that combines fresh, local ingredients with an easygoing, family-friendly atmosphere.

Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake (Lunch, Dinner)

Soup and a sandwich from Sir Benedict’s Tavern on the Lake, one of the best restaurants in Duluth with kids.

Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake is one of our go-to spots whenever we are in town. I loved it in college, in my 20s, and now in my 30s as a parent! It has truly never let me down. This English pub-style spot offers sandwiches, soups, and plenty of kid-friendly options.

Our family loves sitting outside in the summer. They have one of the best patios in Duluth (no matter the season!). The casual, welcoming vibe makes it easy to enjoy a relaxed lunch or dinner without worrying about a formal setting. Parents can sample local brews. And, kids will love their kids' menu picks. It's an iconic Duluth stop that offers cozy seating, comfort food, and a family-friendly atmosphere.

Pizza Lucé Duluth (Weekend Brunch, Lunch, Dinner)

When you're craving something casual and crowd-pleasing, Pizza Lucé is one of our favorite Duluth restaurants for families. You may even have one near home if you live in the Twin Cities-same group!

The menu has something for everyone, from classic pizzas to creative specialty pies and even gluten-free options. Kids love choosing their own toppings. And, the laid-back, colorful atmosphere keeps things fun and stress-free. It's also a great to-go option if you want to have lunch at the beach or back at your hotel.

We appreciate that the portions are generous, making it easy to share or let the kids finish their own pizza. Whether it's a quick family lunch or a relaxed dinner after exploring, Pizza Lucé hits the spot every time.

Dinner Cruise with Vista Fleet (Coffee, Dinner, Cocktails)

A catered meal aboard the Vista Fleet on their Harvest Dinner Cruise, one of the best restaurants in Duluth with kids.

For a truly memorable night out, the Vista Fleet dinner cruises are hands-down one of our top picks for where to eat for a fun family night out in Duluth. They are seasonal experiences, generally offered April – October.

We recently did the Harvest Dinner Cruise, but there are several options, from sunrise to cocktail cruises. Kids will be fascinated by the 360-degree views of the harbor and Lake Superior. Meanwhile, adults enjoy the cash bar and a narrated tour of local ship and industry history. Our dinner was catered by local restaurant Black Woods Grill & Bar (but I think the caterer depends on the cruise, and they switch it up between local restaurants).

A young girl smiles as she enjoys the harbor views from aboard the Vista Fleet.

You can roam all decks, watch the sunset, and even see where the Edmund Fitzgerald last departed (depending on which cruise you do). It's a mix of sightseeing, delicious food, and family fun. Truly a Duluth dining experience you won't forget!

Tavern on the Hill (Weekend Brunch, Lunch, Dinner)

Perched above the city (near UMD), Tavern on the Hill is one of the best restaurants in Duluth with picky kids. The casual, laid-back vibe is welcoming to families. Plus, the menu has plenty of approachable options, from sandwiches and burgers to hearty mains.

The dining room is massive, making this a great option for large families or multi-family groups. They also have a large, shaded outdoor patio during the warmer months. The extensive menu and kids' menu mean everyone can find a favorite dish for the evening. Kids also get WikiStix to play with while they wait for dinner! Tavern on the Hill combines a family-friendly atmosphere, comfort, and tasty food, making it a reliable choice for a relaxed meal.

Hungry Hippie Tacos (Lunch, Dinner)

Close up of a taco from Hungry Hippie Tacos.

For fun, flavorful meals, Hungry Hippie Tacos is one of the best restaurants in Duluth with kids. They are a sister restaurant to the one in Grand Marais. The tacos are creative, fresh, and approachable for all palates. Plus, the casual atmosphere makes it easy to dine with little ones.

Grab a seat inside or enjoy the large patio on a sunny day. Order at the counter, and they will bring the food out to you. Our daughter LOVES their nachos, while we sampled the more adventurous options. The space is vibrant and colorful, adding to the playful dining experience. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or settling in for a casual dinner, Hungry Hippie Tacos delivers big on taste and family-friendly vibes. They also travel well if you want to have a picnic at a local park or beach.

Vitta Pizza (Lunch, Dinner)

Another favorite for families is Vitta Pizza, a relaxed spot among Duluth restaurants for families. With a huge menu of Neapolitan-style pizzas, calzones, and salads, it's easy to satisfy a range of tastes in one meal. They have indoor and limited outdoor seating when the weather is nice.

Kids love customizing their own pizzas with their favorite toppings. Meanwhile, older kids and parents can choose from a broader range of toppings and creations. Of course, the laid-back environment makes it stress-free for parents looking for a tasty spot in the heart of Canal Park. The portions are spot on and the staff are friendly and welcoming to families. We always leave full and happy, making Vitta Pizza a reliable stop on any Duluth weekend with kids.

The PortLand Malt Shoppe (Sweet Treats)

No foodie tour of Duluth with kids is complete without The PortLand Malt Shoppe. It is simply one of the most iconic AND best places to eat ice cream with kids in Duluth. They are also seasonal. Generally, they are open from the start of May until the end of September.

This classic window-serve ice cream parlor is iconic for a reason. Their thick milkshakes, floats, and sundaes delight all ages. Our daughter's favorite when she was little was the giant banana split. Of course, we can never resist a chocolate malt. The nostalgic vibe adds to the experience, making it a fun stop for both kids and adults. Whether it's after a day of exploring or a quick afternoon treat, PortLand Malt Shoppe is a must-visit ice cream spot in the Twin Ports.

Love Creamery (Sweet Treats)

A hand holds out a cone with two scoops from Love Creamery in Canal Park, one of the best restaurants in Duluth with kids.

For another sweet treat, Love Creamery is one of the best ice cream spots in Duluth with kids. With creative flavors, vegan options, and soft-serve classics, it's easy to find something everyone loves. They offer three locations in Canal Park, Lincoln Park, and Billings Park (this one is technically still coming soon!).

While there might be a line out the door, it's worth it for a scoop or two! The line usually moves pretty quickly. Our daughter couldn't get enough of the kid-friendly flavors (like Cookies N Cream!), while we highly recommend the Goat Cheese Honeycomb!

Each shop is a bright, cheerful spot. And the location in Canal Park is just steps from the Lakewalk. Whether you're finishing a harbor stroll or grabbing a quick dessert before heading home, Love Creamery is the perfect way to end a day of eating and exploring Duluth with kids.
