Antonia and her husband cheers while dining at Holman's Table, one of the best date night restaurants for couples in Saint Paul.

Date night in the Twin Cities deserves more than a last-minute Google search and crossed fingers (trust me!). If you're looking for date night ideas in Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and across the Twin Cities that feel special, memorable, and actually live up to the hype, this locally-made list is for you.

These are our tried-and-true favorites as locals. They are the places we recommend to friends, book for anniversaries, and keep coming back to when we want a really great meal out. From cozy neighborhood gems to elevated (read: splurge-worthy) dining experiences, these local restaurants are some of the best in the Twin Cities. Whether you're planning a first date or celebrating years together, you'll find some of the best restaurants for couples in Minneapolis and Saint Paul right here.

Every restaurant on this list is one we've personally visited (at least once, and many more than once) and loved. I'll note which spots take reservations, because we all know that matters when date night rolls around. I hope this guide helps you find your next night out together!

Broders’ Pasta Bar, Minneapolis

Two dishes of pasta from Broders' Pasta Bar, served on the patio.

Broders’ Pasta Bar in South Minneapolis is easily one of our favorite local eateries. This cozy, family-owned neighborhood gem serves cooked-to-order pasta. It is 100% my favorite pasta in Minnesota (and, admittedly, I'm kind of a pasta snob).

Plus, the setting feels effortlessly romantic. Think warm lighting inside. An intimate patio draped in greenery (at least in the summer) outside. And, a relaxed atmosphere that invites you to linger over another glass of wine or dessert. Of course, weeknight date night specials make it even better. From seasonal pastas to their can't-miss burrata salads and Italian wines, every meal feels like a celebration.

Broders' has been part of some of our biggest moments-new jobs, moves, anniversaries, and birthdays-which is why it holds such a special place in our hearts. In my opinion, it is hands-down one of the best restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

There is a small on-site parking lot or free street parking. They don't take reservations, but they do text you when your table is ready. We usually do a quick neighborhood walk or sit outside with a glass of wine while waiting for a table.

St. Genevieve, Minneapolis

Several French-inspired plates from St. Genevieve, one of the best date night restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

Bonjour, St. Genevieve! Tucked into the Linden Hills/Lynnhurst neighborhood, this Parisian-inspired gem is one of my favorite date night restaurants in Minneapolis (especially when oysters are involved!). We have spent many date nights, Mother's Days, and other celebratory evenings here.

Inside and out, the vibe is intimate and elegant. While the menu is smaller than that of other eateries on this list, the flavors speak for themselves! Inspired by the cafés and salons of Paris, every dish feels thoughtful and intentional.

We come back again and again for the oysters (my favorite in the Twin Cities) and the warm, neighborhood atmosphere. It's the kind of place made for lingering conversations, a glass of wine, and pretending (even if just for the evening!) that you're somewhere in Paris.

Saint Genevieve takes reservations. Street parking is (usually) widely available.

Rincón 38, Minneapolis

A delicious Spanish-inspired small plate from Rincón 38.

Rincón 38 in Minneapolis is one of our go-to spots for a special date night. It's perfect for when you want a date night that feels like a mini escape to Spain. It is intimate, inviting, and delicious!

This cozy, modern Spanish bistro offers small plates bursting with bold flavors. They are ideal for sharing. Actually, sharing is best! That way, you can try as many plates as you want. We have loved everything from their Gambas al Ajillo and Albondigas to their Datiles. But, if you see octopus on the menu, that's my top recommendation!

Whether you're seated at the bar or a table, the service is friendly and attentive. And, the lively yet intimate atmosphere sets the stage for a fantastic night out. I promise, Rincón 38 is a tapas experience you'll want to return to again and again. No wonder it’s one of the best restaurants for couples in Minneapolis!

Rincón 38 accepts reservations. Free street parking is available around the restaurant.

Meritage, Saint Paul

A gorgeous, French-inspired duck entree from Meritage.

If you're dreaming of a top-tier, romantic night out, Meritage is one of the best restaurants in Saint Paul for a date night. And, proof that French food sets the mood every time! Tucked into downtown Saint Paul, this spot pairs intimate lighting and service with Parisian-inspired decor. Having been to Paris, this is as close as you can get to it in Minnesota!

The wine list is extensive. The servers have a perfect sense of timing. And, the menu strikes that ideal balance of elegant and comforting. Think classic French dishes and desserts that beg to be shared (or not!).

Meritage takes reservations. Valet parking is absolutely the best option (same price as the local ramps).

Pink Ivy Kitchen and Bar, Hopkins

A beautiful plate of lamb toast from Pink Ivy Kitchen and Bar.

Pink Ivy Kitchen and Bar in Hopkins is a standout for date nights. It's colorful, stylish, and very fun for couples. Indeed, this chef-driven eatery is one of our personal favorites and easily ranks among the best restaurants in the Twin Cities.

The vibe is playful yet intimate, with a distinctly feminine, enchanting feel. Here, date nights feel special without being stuffy or overly traditional. The vibrant pink-and-green dining room sets the scene, while bold flavors and creative plates make conversing over dinner easy.

Add in excellent service and a carefully curated selection of cocktails, wine, whiskey, and bourbon, and you've got one of the most fun date restaurants near Minneapolis. It's the kind of place where the food sparks conversation, and the atmosphere does half the flirting for you.

Pink Ivy takes reservations. There is a large shared parking lot in the back, along with street parking.

Hola Arepa, Minneapolis

An vibrant arepa from Hola Arepa, one of the best date night restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

Hola Arepa is a colorful, tropical escape in the heart of South Minneapolis. Take it from me, this place is an easy win for a fun date night! With vibrant murals, string lights, and an upbeat energy, the atmosphere immediately sets a cheerful, relaxed tone. It's casual enough to take the pressure off a first date, but memorable and delicious enough to keep you coming back again and again. That balance is precisely why it earns a spot on my list of the best restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

The menu leans into Latin street food with Venezuelan-style stuffed arepas. You can also expect shareable small plates and tropical craft cocktails. Everything at Hola Arepa is made from scratch, including the arepas and salsas. Most dishes are also gluten-free. Sip a tamarind margarita, share sweet plantains, and soak in the fun, vibrant vibe. It's proof that date night doesn't have to be fancy to be memorable.

Hola Arepa takes reservations. A tiny parking lot is available, along with street parking. Parking here is tricky. Go early, or allow extra time to secure parking.

Holman’s Table, Saint Paul

A delicious elk dish on the patio at Holman's Table.

Holman's Table is one of my top picks for the best restaurants in Saint Paul for a date night. It offers a dining experience that feels truly unforgettable. Located at the Downtown St. Paul Airport, this surprisingly chic spot pairs seasonal dishes with handcrafted cocktails and sweeping runway views. Yes, you can watch planes take off and land while you dine!

The vintage travel vibes inside set a romantic, adventurous tone. The menu strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and approachable (plus, it has my favorite Caesar salad in the Twin Cities). You really can't go wrong with anything you order here! Just be sure you save room for dessert.

Want to really level up date night? Book a helicopter ride with Minnesota Helicopters onsite and enjoy drinks or dinner before or after. It's dinner and adventure all in one. Reservations are made separately.

Holman's Table accepts reservations. A large on-site parking lot is available.

Iconos Gastro Cantina, Minneapolis

Yummy flautas from Iconos Gastro Cantina in Minneapolis, one of the best date night restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

Iconos Gastro Cantina is a lively Latin American spot nestled in the LynLake neighborhood. This local eatery transports you and your taste buds immediately to vacation mode with its inventive menu, bold flavors, and perfectly spicy dishes. It's one of my favorite date-night restaurants in Minneapolis.

The dining room is full of evening light and lush plants. I recommend standout dishes like the Watermelon Salad and Birria Tacos. Creative cocktails and top-notch service elevate the experience. Iconos blends high energy, flavor, and flair for a great night out. It's a top choice if you've been wondering where to go for a vibrant night in the Twin Cities!

Reservations are available, as is paid street parking.

The Tasting Room, Minneapolis

A glass of white wine at The Tasting Room.

The Tasting Room in the heart of Uptown is an easy favorite for date nights. Its incredible wine list and quietly romantic vibe easily put it at the top of the list of the best restaurants for couples in Minneapolis. Locally owned with roots in France (Nico was raised in the heart of France's premier wine regions), this cozy spot features dim lighting, intimate seating, and excellent service.

The menu leans into French-inspired flavors. It's perfect for sharing a few plates alongside a great glass of wine. It's ideal for a leisurely happy hour, a quick drink before a show, or a full dinner when you want something special without feeling overdone.

The warm, tucked-away seating makes conversation flow with ease. And, the overall atmosphere strikes that sweet spot between relaxed and refined.

The Tasting Room accepts reservations. Paid street parking is available.

Owamni, Minneapolis

An Indigenous dish served at Owamni, one of the best date night restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

Owamni by Sean Sherman (The Sioux Chef) is one of the most remarkable date night restaurants in Minneapolis. It is polished, thoughtful, and absolutely delicious. Perched riverside, the restaurant offers stunning views of Saint Anthony Falls.

The Indigenous menu showcases the authentic, original flavors of this land. Each dish is carefully crafted without colonial ingredients. Think things like wheat flour, cane sugar, or dairy. Or proteins like beef and pork. Owamni's menu is naturally gluten- and dairy-free. Everything I've tried here has been excellent. Because the menu changes seasonally, I don't want to make too many recommendations, but if you see bison on the menu-get it!

The staff are excellent at helping guests navigate the menu. And, seasonal changes mean there's always something new to discover. Owamni is simply perfect for a special night out or an elevated meal for two.

Owamni accepts reservations (which are highly recommended). Bar seating is first-come, first-served. Paid street parking is available.

Acqua Restaurant & Bar, White Bear Lake

The seafood platter at Acqua Restaurant & Bar in White Bear Lake.

Acqua Restaurant & Bar is one of the best (and my favorite) restaurants in the Twin Cities for seafood. Located in White Bear Lake, this lakefront restaurant is the perfect pick for a special date night when you're craving seafood!

The dining room exudes classic elegance with white tablecloths and candlelight. The menu shines with pasta and seafood (don't miss the Seafood Feast!). Top it off with the Butterscotch Budino if it’s on the menu. It is divine!

Sundays are extra special with a three-course prix-fixe for two, ideal for a romantic evening. and a stroll along the waterfront or fishing pier, and you've got a truly memorable experience.

Acqua Restaurant & Bar accepts reservations (the deck and patio are first-come, first-served). Street parking and a free parking lot are available.

Diane's Place, Minneapolis

Beautiful pastries from Diane’s Place.

Diane's Place in Northeast Minneapolis is a top choice for a brunch date or date night. This local gem is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants for couples in Minneapolis. The menu brings together Chef Diane's pastry mastery and the comforting flavors of her Hmong heritage.

The bright, airy dining room is perfect for connecting over croissants in bold flavors like Coconut Pandan (a personal favorite!) or Mango, Passion Fruit & Lychee. Don't miss the Green Scallion Danish with Garlic Butter if you see it on the menu!

Beyond pastries, the menu features Diane's Hmong Sausage, Duck & Rice, Thai Tea French Toast, and a variety of bowls, noodles, and Asian-inspired dishes. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Diane's Place is a flavorful, unique, and endlessly charming date spot.

Diane's Place accepts reservations (highly recommended), and free street parking is available.

Dario, Minneapolis

Dopio ravioli from Dario.

Dario is a standout for posh date night restaurants in Minneapolis-especially if you're looking to splurge. Tucked into a quiet corner of the North Loop, this Italian-inspired spot pairs handmade pastas and globally inspired flavors. The dining room is bright and energetic. Think hot pink, Miami vibes (with music to match).

The Doppio pasta is a must-order (in my opinion). That said, every dish is artfully presented with bold, creative flavors. Dario delivers a lively, unforgettable dining experience that impresses without feeling fussy or uptight. It offers the kind of vibrancy you want when you’re looking to impress someone, but it can be tricky for conversations. Even so, it's a top pick for a romantic date night in the Twin Cities.

Dario accepts reservations. Check the valet price before parking. It's often cheaper or comparable to street or ramp parking (Ramp C is the closest ramp option).

Milly’s Wine Bar & Bistro, Minneapolis

Italian-inspired charcuterie board from Milly's Wine Bar & Bistro, one of the best date night restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

Milly's Wine Bar & Bistro in downtown Minneapolis is a local gem for great wine. Tucked in the vibrant Mill District, this cozy wine bar pairs a creative, flavor-packed menu with an extensive, thoughtfully curated wine list

Their "wine fights" are a playful way to explore new varietals and pairings. Meanwhile, the charcuterie boards transport you abroad with every bite (we've loved their Italian and Spanish boards in the past; boards change with the seasons). The atmosphere is chic yet welcoming and unassuming.

If you don't know anything about wine, don't worry! Their friendly and knowledgeable staff can provide recommendations. In my opinion, it's a top spot for a fun date restaurant in Minneapolis.

Milly’s Wine Bar & Bistro takes reservations. Paid street parking is available around the restaurant.

O'Shaughnessy Distilling Co., Minneapolis

Yummy bourbon steak tips from O’Shaughnessy Distilling Co.

Tucked into Minneapolis' Prospect Park neighborhood, O'Shaughnessy Distilling Co. is a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique night out. As one of the best restaurants for couples in Minneapolis, this date night stop offers both dinner and entertainment. The restaurant offers cozy, moody vibes with oversized furniture and intimate booths, making it perfect for a relaxed evening.

The award-winning distillery adds a unique twist. During dinner, you can sip on Keeper's Heart Whiskey. Or, one of their creative cocktails while taking in the warm Irish-American hospitality.

The food here is absolutely phenomenal! From the best fish and chips I've had in the U.S. to Honey-Bourbon Steak Tips and Bourbon Smoked Petite Crème, the menu pairs perfectly with the spirits. Their Irish Spice Bags are a must, too! Whether you're grabbing a casual meal at the bar or enjoying a full dinner, the flavors are bold, and the vibes are date night-ready.

For an extra-special evening, book a distillery tour before or after dinner. Guides are knowledgeable, and the tours are very fun! Plus, it ends with a tasting (IDs are required for tastings). O'Shaughnessy is a fun date-night idea that combines incredible food, inventive drinks, and a unique Minneapolis distillery tour you and your date won't soon forget.

O'Shaughnessy Distilling Co. takes reservations for dinner and their distillery tours. Reservations are made separately. They have a large, dedicated parking lot.

Cedar + Stone, Urban Table, Bloomington

A special event plating of food from Cedar + Stone, Urban Table.

Cedar + Stone, Urban Table at the JW Marriott in Bloomington, is one of my favorite spots for a special night out (and, it easily ranks among the best restaurants in the Twin Cities!). The space is beautiful and inviting, with top-notch service. Every dish is thoughtfully prepared with locally sourced ingredients. They even grow micro-greens right inside the restaurant!

Savor standout dishes like Comfrey Farms Pork Chop, Roasted Mushroom Risotto, or Wagyu New York Strip Loin. The menu changes seasonally, and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Dessert is not to be missed. Try the Dark Chocolate Crème Brûlée or the Butterscotch Bread Pudding if they are available.

Cedar + Stone, Urban Table takes reservations. Free parking is available in any of the Mall of America ramps.

Stock & Bond, Minneapolis

Chocolate cake from Stock & Bond, one of the best date night restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

Stock & Bond in downtown Minneapolis is a new favorite for us (it just opened in October 2025). If you're wondering where to go for a romantic date night with Frank Sinatra vibes in the Twin Cities-this is it!

Housed in the iconic Farmers & Mechanics Savings Bank, the space combines the original 100-year-old wood paneling and chandeliers with a modern, elegant vibe. Every detail, from the impeccable service to the cooked-to-order pasta and Parker House rolls, makes the dining experience unforgettable. It is truly one of the best restaurants for couples looking for an upscale night out in Minneapolis.

The menu celebrates heritage steaks from Midwestern farms, featuring wet- and dry-aged cuts such as Porterhouse and Tomahawk (perfect for sharing). Our favorites include the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, Short Rib Ravioli, and the Prime New York Strip. Each offers flavors and textures that will have you coming back again and again (though this one is another splurge-worthy stop).

Don't miss checking out the whiskey vault. It's located inside the original bank vault! Stock & Bond delivers a genuinely elevated, romantic dining experience in Minneapolis.

Stock & Bond accepts reservations. Paid ramps and street parking are available around the restaurant.

Curry Corner, Minneapolis

Antonia enjoys several plates from Curry Corner, one of the best date night restaurants for couples in Minneapolis.

Curry Corner is a casual yet flavorful pick for date-night restaurants in Minneapolis. This family-owned gem serves some of the city's best North Indian cuisine. Everything is served family-style so that you can share the epic spread together!

Standout dishes include Pani Puri Shots (refreshing and fun), Lamb Samosa, Chicken Biryani, and Lamb Vindaloo. Plus, there are plenty of vegetarian options. Don't skip the naan-onion and garlic are favorites for us! And, be sure to try one of their inventive Indian-inspired cocktails.

The staff is warm and knowledgeable, happy to guide you through the menu if you're unsure what to order (or how much to order). Whether it's your first visit or your tenth, Curry Corner delivers consistently bold flavors and a friendly, casual vibe that makes for a delightful date night.

Paid street parking and a nearby ramp are available.
